Violin or Brown Recluse Spider

This spider had an outbreak in Sierra Madre in the 1970s. As is often the case, many species may be stowaways off of ships and planes and escape to live in the guest city. This spider may be around the southern California area even today. The bite is very poisonous (as the black widow). After the bite, the muscles and skin seem to get necrotic and decay. Best to see a doctor immediately after the bite. Both the widow and this spider may enter houses to live in the warmth...often near beds and around the toilet. It could build a web (from the lower corner) anywhere around the house...log piles are a favorite as is any cool dry hideout. The violin spider about as large as the widow to 3/4 inch...well fed spiders probably quite a bit larger.
