Eaton Canyon Falls 7/08/09

These flow out most of the year. A large pool where at one time you could swim there sans fecund water. People have tried to climb over these falls and many have not made it. There was a ladder there but that was taken down. Easier to walk another 6 miles and 1500 feet up to get to Idlehour Campground and go down precipitous Eaton canyon to get to the top of the falls. This canyon laden with birch trees predominantly. These exist amidst a backdrop of steep cliffs with pretty arid chaparral. One can take the Mt. Wilson toll road to Henniger Flats, Eaton Canyon, and/or go up the ridge to the Mt. Lowe railway and back down. This is a good 17 mile hike with 1000s of feet going up and down for the day. Another hike would be to the top of Mt. Wilson and either down the "rattlesnake" trail or the old Mt. Wilson trial back to Sierra Madre. One climbs 4200 feet and walks about 20 miles for the day RT.
