Mt Baden Powell 9/2011
Some nice pics of this steep sided mountain. Hike was on a nice summery type day. Noted bighorn sheep about 25% of the way up. Conifers in better shape in places...beyond the pine blister beetle infestations. One can "bag peaks." That is hike several in a day. In this area one could go up Mt Islip, Mt Hawkins, Throop Peak, Mt Burnham and Mt Baden Powell in a day. Above 8500 feet much more alpine conditions greet the hiker. The swarthy limber pine is seen at this elevation...holding it's own for a 1000 years despite harsh weather and fires.
