Icehouse Canyon/Ontario Peak pics

There are a number of beautiful hikes here. One goes to Baldy Village (north of Claremont). One can hike up Mt. Baldy. Or one can hike east up the beautiful Icehouse Canyon trail. Did this in late 2004 in a heavy windstorm. A foot of snow was there and winds to 100MPH. The wind drops the temperature from 29 degrees to chill factor of about 9 degrees Farenheit. This hike starts at Baldy Village at 6000 feet. One goes a good 3 miles to get to the saddle at 7600 feet. An all year spring greets visitors about 2 miles up. One gets a great sampling of incense cedar, ponderosa pine and sugar pine throughout the area. Oak up here as well. A number of cabins up the trail. The last portion is steep. There's a excellent view of the Cajon pass from the saddle. One can turn left to go to the "3 Ts." Or right and climb the back of Ontario Peak --8400 feet above sea level. The peak just east of it is Cucamonga Peak towering to almost 8700 feet above the sea. Many bighorn sheep can be seen nimbly jumping up and down rocky craggs. You may or may not encounter black bear in this area.
