World's Tallest Pine Tree

This is Pinus Lambertiana. They often grow to 150-200 feet tall with 8-10 foot trunk in circumference. Branches hang out 40 feet across. Likes to live above 5000 feet to about 8000 feet or so above the sea. Trees can live a good 500 years.

Beautiful pictures and interesting info. Can one see these around these areas?

Hello Moyita: check the area on the Angeles Crest Highway at Mount Waterman and well past that (E) to Wrightwood. A few on the top of San Gabriel Peak and Strawberry Peak. They often coexist with Jeffrey and yellow and Coulter pines. There cones are distinctive. They are circular hewed and about 18 to 24 inches in length and 3.5 inches or so in diameter...a cream color. When you view the tree with this cone, that should be the correct one.

Older trees are "flat headed," meaning they have withstood the ravages of mountain storms, fires, floods, and earthquakes. Other possibily: the Ventura Mountains off of I 5 near Gorman. Right around Mt. Pinos. Also in Big Bear Lake and the tramway (top)to the San Jacinto mountains. These trees occur well north of here, through the Sierra Nevada and well into the Canadian border. Hope your day spiritual >Marc
